Florida International University claimed the top spot at the 2014 ABC Construction Management Competition (CMC), taking home the first place overall winning title March 11 in Miami Beach, Fla. The competition started at the beginning of the school year in September when the students were given a request for proposal based on a real project being completed in Boca Raton, Fla. After months of preparation, the teams presented their bids on the project in front of a panel of judges, testing their skills in project management, estimating, safety, quality control and presentation.

The CMC is designed to give the students a chance to use what they learn in the classroom and apply it to a real-world situation. The competition challenges the students’ knowledge of the industry, time management, organizational, and presentation skills.
